Small Dog Travel Guide: A Day Out Without the Stress

Small dogs can have big adventures, but a good travel setup makes the day easier for both of you. The goal is simple: keep your dog comfortable, keep your hands free, and pack only what you actually need.

1. Start with the right carrier

A hands-free carrier can make errands, short hikes, and busy travel days much easier when your small dog needs a break from walking. Our Small Dog Backpack Carrier is designed for small dogs and keeps them close while leaving your hands available.

2. Plan for the parts of the day that happen after dark

If an outing runs into the evening, visibility becomes part of the plan. Our LED Poop Bag Dispenser combines a bag holder with a built-in light, so you can keep essential walk gear on the leash.

3. Check fit before you leave

Before a longer outing, check the carrier's sizing information and make sure your dog can sit or settle comfortably. A good fit matters more than how much gear you can attach to the carrier.

4. Keep the first trips short

A first trip does not need to be an all-day adventure. Start with a short errand or familiar walk, watch your dog's body language, and head home while the experience is still going well.

5. Pack the boring essentials

• Water and a collapsible bowl
• Leash and waste bags
• A few familiar treats
• A small towel or comfort item
• Your phone and emergency contact information

6. Build in rest time

Small dogs can tire quickly during busy outings. Give your dog regular breaks rather than waiting until they are already overwhelmed or exhausted. If your dog is carried for part of the trip, make sure you still offer opportunities to stretch, drink, and use the bathroom.

Make travel easier, not more complicated

The best travel kit is the one you will actually use. Start with comfort, visibility, water and waste bags, then add extras based on the trip. For more everyday gear, browse our Walk & Travel Essentials collection.
